Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are open to all age groups (16-24 years) whether they are just leaving school, or have been in employment for years and seeking a new career.

Apprenticeships enable you to start work and earn a wage, while learning new skills and knowledge you will work towards a work-based qualification such as a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at level 2 and other nationally recognised qualification.

An Apprenticeship helps you to develop the skills you need for your chosen career and provides entry to an Advanced Apprenticeship at level 3.

Apprenticeships are made up of three elements: the NVQ, Key Skills and Technical Certificates and/or enhancements.

Employers all over the country recognise and value Apprenticeships as they show that you’ve been trained in the skills they need. They usually take between 9 months and 1 year to complete.

For more information about Apprenticeship visit the on-line service at www.apprenticeships.org.uk to Register-Search-Apply.

Advanced Apprenticeship

Advanced Apprenticeships can be a springboard to a successful career in many occupational areas.

Once you have completed a level 2 Apprenticeship you can work towards a Level 3 qualification (Advanced Apprenticeship) and progress on to a Level 4 qualification (Higher Apprenticeship) in some occupational areas.

To progress on to the Advanced Apprenticeship you should ideally have five GCSE’s (grade C or above) or have completed an Apprenticeship at level 2.

Advanced Apprenticeships are made up of NVQ, Key Skills and Technical Certificates and/or enhancements.

Advanced Apprenticeships usually take at least 2 years to complete and can also lead to university.

Progression

Apprenticeships can be demanding but they are very rewarding. When you have completed your Apprenticeship or Advanced Apprenticeship you can carry on working, maybe get promoted or go on to higher education in a college or university.

This diagram represents the progression routes available to you with an Apprenticeship.
