Working in Partnership with Schools

The Derbyshire Network has developed the following programmes which are being promoted to all schools throughout Derby City, Derbyshire and the East Midlands.

Market Place

The Market Place is the ideal opportunity to talk individually with young people and their parents/carers about their career choices and the Apprenticeship options available to them once they leave schools and start employment. We will signpost them to our Member Training Providers and Colleges as well as talk to them about progression opportunities onto Further Education to encourage Life Long Learning

Presentations

Presentations are delivered to learners at assembly, typically in year 11. This is then followed up with any of the following workshops a few weeks later. Presentations can also be delivered to parents, usually at an evening event or in small groups. Which gives them the opportunity to ask questions about Apprenticeships and other Post-16 Options available for young people about to leave school and start employment with training.

Workshop One

Apprenticeships ~ Making them Work for You!

This Workshop is more employer focussed and provides information about the Apprenticeship. Framework and what young people can expect when they start work, as well as what the employer expects of them. The one-hour session also includes a short DVD and activity to assess their knowledge and understanding of Apprenticeships.

Workshop Two

How to conduct yourself at an Interview?

This Workshop looks at how a young person should prepare themselves for an interview. It is a practical session where the group takes part in a ‘Mind Mapping’ exercise followed by a ‘mock interview’.

Workshop Three

How to achieve an NVQ qualification?

This workshop looks at the Apprenticeship Framework in more detail and takes the learners through the building of a portfolio by looking at the standards and evidence required to achieve the qualification. A unit from a sample of different Apprenticeship qualifications are used, plus the session includes a short DVD.

If you are interested in any of the above events or activities, and would like your school to become an Associate Member please contact The Derbyshire Network on: 01773 740441 or via e-mail at sandra.coombes@thederbyshirenetwork.org
